PRINCELY STATE OF HYDERABAD COINS
The Princely State of Hyderabad was ruled by the Nizams who belonged to the Asaf Jah dynasty, which originated in the early 18th century when Mughal governor Asaf Jah I (1st Nizam of Hyderabad) assumed autonomous control over the Deccan region. His descendants would go on to rule Hyderabad as Nizams for over two centuries until India's independence.
Asaf Jah I was an experienced Mughal commander and able administrator who laid the foundations for Hyderabad's eventual prosperity under the Nizams. He set up an administrative system, court rituals, and minting of coins based on Mughal norms.
The zenith of the Nizam dynasty was under Asaf Jah II (5th Nizam of Hyderabad State), who reigned for nearly 60 years in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He secured internal stability and autonomy from the British during his long rule. His reign saw the introduction of reforms to the Hyderabadi army, economic development, and artistic patronage.
In the mid-1800s, Salar Jung I served as regent during the minority of Nizam Mahbub Ali Khan (9th Nizam of Hyderabad). He signed treaties acquiescing to British control over Hyderabad's defense and foreign affairs. These opened the way for British residents to increasingly interfere in governance.
The final ruler Mir Osman Ali Khan (10th Nizam of Hyderabad State) reigned from 1911 to 1948, overseeing the state's integration into independent India after resisting calls to accede to Pakistan. In his final years, he had to contend with the radical Razakar militia opposing Hyderabad's accession to India.
These are a few of the Hyderabad State Coins that are there in My collection, will post more as I get my hands on some good specimens. If any of you have any other coins not mentioned here please send the details of the coin to me to post it here with reference to you.
